Description of Your Roadmap to Project Management Results: Using Five Simple Checklists
From the Author I started writing this book in 2013 and it was initially focused on using Lean Six Sigma (LSS) for IT Service Delivery. I had 120 pages written and then decided I would change it to the current form that's focused on project management using 5 simple checklists. I've always been a fan of checklists since I learned early in my career that people need something simple to follow rather than a policy, a procedure or a manual. The PMBOK has 756 pages in it and that's a lot of material to cover to manage a project. After seeing how people struggled with the basics of project management, especially in the Private Equity space, I wanted to provide something that would help them and develop the roadmap they could follow that was based on checklists. I'm managed projects all of my career and used the concepts to improve my quality. After more than 30 years of managing projects, I've distilled what I know are the critical tasks that should be used to manage projects successfully. My original goal almost 1 year ago, was to complete the book by March 2019. Well I blew by that in a significant way, but I did publish in December 2019. The last 10% of the book was very frustrating. The reviews, the rewriting, the pain of it all was maddening. We were in Pacific Beach California for 6 weeks this summer and I wrote almost every morning for 2 to 3 hours. I made a lot of progress, but it was painful. My wife, Jacquelyn, helped me with the final edits and she made sure it was readable for a person who may or may not be totally familiar with the content. She's an engineer and a hell of one at that! Georgia Tech graduate and very detail oriented with a lot of patience.Toward the end, I thought I'm never going to finish this but just like project management, you keep your priorities and make progress everyday. After it was complete, I swore I wouldn't do it again, but now that's its been a couple of weeks, I've got an idea for the next one. :) See a new one in 2020! Read more About the Author Prior to starting his consulting company, Stephen was the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Global Training and Logistics Business that was a Lockheed Martin Company in Orlando Florida. In his role as CIO, he brought broad based design leadership to support implementations of new and emerging technologies.During his career at Lockheed Martin, he managed complex projects that delivered results across engineering, information technology, manufacturing, quality and sales organizations. He's distilled that experience into 5 Simple Checklists that can be used to deliver outstanding results for any project manager. He's provided consulting services to a number of different companies in a variety of industries. A sample of some of the companies he's provided consulting services for are:Barcodes Inc. (Private Equity)Cameron Oil & Gas (now a Schlumberger company)Franklin Energy (Private Equity)Hewlett Packard (Public Company)Lockheed Martin (Public Company)NRG Energy (Public Company)Weimen Products (Private Equity)YETI Coolers (Public Company, formally Private Equity)His innovative thinking and common sense approach is used to enhance business operations and strategy to deliver outstanding results for his clients. He develops business strategies that scale and reduce 'friction' for the business operation processes. Read more
