Description of Leadership by Invitation: How to RSVP and Embrace Your Role as a LEADER
About the Author Leadership by Invitation is the result of Barry Smiths answer to his own invitation to lead written for the specific purpose of calling others to lead while equipping and empowering them to do so. Everyone is invited to lead in one way or another, yet very few truly answer that invitation. Leadership by Invitation provides the necessary tools to answer the invitation and embrace the role. After almost thirty years in the construction industry, Barry realized he had a much greater purpose, a purpose that would not be fulfilled as a project manager and estimator. A shift in organizational structure left him without the tribe he once had to lead. It was not long before he realized he had received a new invitation. The journey described in this book and his choice to step out and write it, represent his answer to that invitation. Founder of Building What Matters, LLC, in 2011, Barry focuses on just that building what matters and what matters is people! As an international coach, speaker, trainer and author, Barry provides leadership development in a world starving for it. Seeing others live out the life they were created to live is his vision, while at the same time, adding value with integrity in the process. A founding member of both the John Maxwell Team and The Deeper Path Team, Barry works collaboratively with like-minded colleagues all over the globe. Barrys focus is not on success but significance. Barry grew up in Southwest Portland, Oregon, attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Portland and graduated from the University of Idaho. He and his wife Michelle have two sons, Scott and Spencer, and reside in Corbett, a rural community east of Portland. Read more
